Abstract
The purpose of this study was to analyze the age-specific factors of Koreans with spinal cord injury (SCI) in regards to one¡¯s quality of life (QOL). A total of 201 people with SCI participated in the study. The WHOQOL Scale-Brief, Spinal Cord Independent Measure III, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale and demographic questionnaires were used. Physical, psychological, and social QOL of two age groups (age 19-44 vs. age 45-64) were compared using t-test and hierarchical regression analysis. The results are: 1) overall QOL was significantly higher in the youth group comparing to the middle-aged group; 2) the level of depression was the most important influencing factor in the youth group whereas gender, depression, anxiety, monthly income and religion in the middle-aged group. These results show that influencing factors of QOL for people with SCI may vary by one¡¯s age, indicating social factors (e.g., income and religion) were more prominent in middle-aged group, while the psychological factors (e.g., anxiety and depression) are relatively more important in the youth group.
